A festival for „Everyman“
The premiere of „Everyman“ on Salzburg Cathedral Square in August 1920 laid the foundation for the world-famous festival. Founded more than 100 years ago by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Max Reinhardt and Richard Strauss, they are magnets more than ever. Every summer in July and August they fascinate more than 250.000 visitors from all over the world. Even if the „Everyman“ performances are the hallmark of the Salzburg Festival, over 200 events take place in the six weeks of the festival as part of a top-class drama, opera and concert program. Especially Mozart fans get their money’s worth, because the artist was born in Salzburg. The magnificent Salzburg Festival Hall, the historic ‚Felsenreitschule‘, the Mozarteum and of course the imposing Cathedral Square serve as venues and backdrops. But there are also many smaller, pretty squares in and around Salzburg that invite you to experience art & culture.
