Mozart Cycle Path
On the traces of Wolfgang Amadeus.
Arrival in Salzburg
Why not go for a look around Salzburg on the day you arrive in Mozart’s footsteps? You can check out his birth place, his place of residence, the Mozart statue, Waagplatz, confectionary Fürst, Café Tomaselli and the cathedral.
Cycle along the Salzach river to Oberndorf (birth place of “Silent Night”). You cross the Austrian/Bavarian border to Laufen. From there you cycle to Lake Waginger See. You ride along the river Traun to the Chiemgau's capital, Traunstein (salt works district, town tower and brewery). You will stay overnight in Chieming, Traunstein or the surrounding area.
You cycle from Chieming to Seeon via Seebruck where Mozart visited the monastery several times. From Seeon you go back to Lake Chiemsee and then on to Breitbrunn. Via Amerang you reach Wasserburg where Mozart stayed several times during his travels.
Stroll through the lovely city of Wasserburg, which is nearly trapped by the river Inn. Today you follow the river Inn until you get to Kufstein, the “pearl of Tyrol”. Seeing as the route hardly ever leaves the wonderful Inn valley, there are pretty much no hills. That means taht you can simply enjoy the ride into Tyrol via Rosenheim.
You continue your bike ride along the river Inn. Afterwards you cycle the hilly route via Ebbs, Walchsee, Waidach and Kössen through the imposing Tyrolean landscape to St. Johann.
Today you cycle to Waidring and Lofer. Mozart visited both of these places on his travels. From Lofer you cycle along the river Saalach on a romantic bike path via Unken and Schneizlreuth to Bad Reichenhall. Mozart stayed in Bad Reichenhall on his last stopover in Salzburg in 1780. You either stay overnight in Bad Reichenhall or Bayerisch Gmain.
Berchtesgaden is a good place to take a break. We recommend a trip to the nearby lake Königssee before returning to Salzburg and spending your last evening there.
