Salzburg's Lake District – based in one hotel

Relaxed cycling through the Lake District.

Scenic and cultural highlights as far as the eye can see – the lake district in Austria near the world-famous Mozart city of Salzburg offers countless possibilities. This tour is based in one hotel. This means that you have accommodation as a base for the entire trip and take day drips from there.

Details about the Salzburg's Lake District tour

You stay in a fantastic location in Seeham on Obertrumer See – the perfect starting point for leisurely tours. Wallersee, Mondsee and Irrsee are just three of the great bodies of water in which you can dip your feet. This tour impresses with many included services such as a visit to Gut Aiderbichl or a tasty ‘Jause’ during one of the lunch breaks.

A visit to the ‘Silent Night’ town of Oberndorf is on the programme, as well as a trip to Hallein. Over green meadows and pretty villages you go to the Michaelbeauern Monastery.

Highlights of the Salzburg's Lake District tour

  • Mirabell Garden in Salzburg: Of course you must visit the festival city. As well as the Getriedegasse and the Cathedral, the Mirabell Gardens are particularly worth visiting. Labyrinths, sculptures or the palm house transport guests back in time.
  • The steeply towering Drachenwand at the Mondsee offers views that are second to none. Anyone planning a hike to the top should be aware that the path from Mondsee in particular is only for experienced hikers! Alternatively, an easier tour starts in Fuschl and the view is fabulous.
  • Jause at the Mostheuriger: Have a leisurely stop and enjoy rustic delicacies straight from the farm – it tastes great! Try a pastry too! To say goodbye, toast the tour with a homemade schnapps!
  • Wonderful swimming in the lakes: Whether water skiing, banana boat or sailing – numerous beaches on the beautiful lakes and leisure activities are great.

Useful information about the 7-day Salzburg's Lake District tour

The day trips of the rallies are variable, you can choose when you want to do which tour. The approximately 45-kilometre-long stages are sometimes supplemented by transfers to make the day’s destinations as pleasant as possible. On the cycle paths are flat and hilly passages.

Personal tour information and bike fitting for rental bikes.

Cycle along beautiful routes to the monastery in Michaelbeuern. In the Stiftskellnerei restaurant you can try the famous Augustinerbräu beer whilst sitting in the shade thanks to the old chestnut trees. To get back to the hotel you shall cycle through the rural coutryside of the Alpine foothills to your hotel located by Lake Obertrum.

This tour goes from Lake Obertrum to Lake Wallersee. From Seekirchen by Lake Wallersee (casle Seeburg) you continue your trip along the Wallersee cycle path the well-known farm, Gut Aiderbichl. The admission fee is included in the tour price! From there you will cycle to the food of Mount Tannberg to Schleedorf and then down to Lake Mattsee and back to your hotel.

Today you will cycle via the Egelseen lakes and through the Tiefsteinklamm gorge to Lake Wallersee. After passing the so-called Finsterloch you will have time for a lunch break with a hearty snack (included in the tour package price!). After lunch it is time to continue your tour. You head to Lake Irrsee and to Lake Mondsee and to the town of the same name – Mondsee – with its old castle and historic church. At the end of your day, you will be taken back to your hotel.

The day starts with a short transfer to Salzburg. On the Salzach riverside walk you will leisurely cycle to Oberndorf, the birthplace of the famous Christmas carol “Silent Night”. On your way back to the Trumer Seen lakes, you can either cycle over or around Mount Haunsberg.

The train will take you to Hallein (Celtic town, Celtic museum, salt mine). You then cycle along the river Salzach and via Hellbrunn castle, which has got world-famous fountains to Salzburg. Later on, you will return along the Fischach and Mattig rivers to Seeham.

Tour character

By the edge of the lakes and along the Salzach river, the routes are completely flat. In between, the terrain is mostly hilly. Most of the tour is on bike paths. When not cycling on bike paths, you are normally cycling through fields or quiet side roads. There are only a few short sections on roads with more traffic.
