The Amalfi Coast

Today you will travel according to your individual travel plans to your starting hotel in Cetara. You will be given your rental bikes there.

Today’s cycle route goes along one of the most impressive coastal roads in the world to the medieval town of Amalfi. From Capo d’Orso, which is the highest point on the panoramic road, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Amalfi coastline and to Capri Island. You will then cycle past Maiori, Minori and Atrani. Those who would like to can take a detour to Ravello, but do note that there is a demanding hill to cycle up if you do decide to do this. If that doesn’t take your fancy, there is a bus from Amalfi that goes to Ravello. However, you decide to get to Ravello, it is definitely worth a visit! When you get back to Amalfi you will be taken by a private boat to a nice restaurant in a nearby bay where you will have dinner. (only in Cat. A)

Today you will explore the second section of the spectacular “Strada Amalfitana” stretching from Amalfi to Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi, which lies on a ridge on top of the Gulf of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno. Here wonderful views simply open up to you of the Amalfi coast and the coastal area of Sorrento. You cycle past Praiano and the former maritime little town of Positano. Both of which have turned into two of the most popular seaside resorts along the Amalfi coast. You should take a break here and set time aside to have a look around. Behind the Positano, the coastline becomes wilder and there is a long uphill stretch to “Colli di San Pietro” for you to cycle up before arriving at your hotel in Sant´Agata sui Due Golfi.

The first section of today’s stage offers an amazing panorama with a view over towards Capri on one side and over towards Naples, with Vesuvius towering over it, on the other side. You cycle high above the coast towards the island’s most westerly point, Punta Campanella. From Termini you will also get a wonderful view towards Capri. Your route then heads back towards Massa Lubrense via the northern coastline and you will have views towards Naples and Vesuvius again. Those who want to can take a detour to Sorrento. It is located in a wonderful location on top of the white cliffs. The aroma of lemons and oranges accompanies you on your walk through the old town where you will go past lovely gardens and villas.  If you don’t do this, you can cycle further inland and then uphill once more towards Sant’Agata, where the way becomes flat before it goes downhill again towards Positano.  If you whiz down this hill, just before sundown, it is sure to be one of the best moments that you can possibly experience on a bike.

On your last day, you will cycle from Positano to Salerno.
Take time to look around the Amalfi cathedral, to have a coffee at the delightful main square in Atrani, to enjoy biscuits from one of the bakers in Minori or even a refreshing drink. When you arrive in Salerno, go for a stroll through some of the side streets in the old town with numerous shops selling handmade crafts or if you fancy a shopping trip look for one of the larger shopping streets. On request, it is possible for you to stay in the hotel in Cetera where you stayed on the first night.
