Bavaria means cosiness, warmth, friendliness, tradition and closeness to nature. This tour will be sporty, but you should indulge in the delicacies of Bavarian cuisine. Roasts, dumplings, Bavarian creme and beer, the list of fine foods and drinks is long. Then take a swim in the beautiful lakes of Munich's south. An ideal balance, what do you say?
Details of the Munich Lakes Tour Sporty
The tour starts and ends in the Bavarian metropolis of Munich. The city not only offers many sights and attractions, but also has its very own flair. Observe how tradition and modernity merge - be it in the way of life, in gastronomy or when young and old meet. As soon as you leave the city in the direction of Forstenrieder Park, you will notice the influences of nature. Peace, contemplation and relaxation alongside physical activity.
With Lake Starnberg, Lake Kochelsee and Lake Staffelsee, idyllic and sparkling water in its purest form await you on the first few days. On day 4, the tour leads through the Murnauer Moos, the largest of its kind in Central Europe at 32 km2, first to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and on to Wallgau, idyllically nestled between the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains. With the Sylvensteinsee and the Tegernsee, two more scenic highlights await before the tour continues to the charming Bad Tölz.
Highlights of the cycle tour with Eurobike
The idyllic Lake Starnberg and the surrounding villages have a lot to offer: Water sports, art and culture. But what you should definitely do: Enjoy - the magnificent views, the flair around the lake and the sophisticated atmosphere.
The decorated market square in Murnau: Did you know that the famous artist Wassily Kandinsky once called Murnau his home? This left a lasting impression on the town, which is still considered a meeting place for art and culture lovers today. Stroll along the beautiful market square, where galleries and studios alternate with cafés and boutiques.
The Lüftlmalerei in Bad Tölz: A walk through the beautiful "Alpine town" is a must for every visitor. Look at the colourful facades along the market square, maybe stop by the town museum or the "Bulle von Tölz" museum and admire the Calvary including the church.
The English Garden in Munich is not only home to some of the city's most famous sights (Japanese Tea House, Monopteros, Chinese Tower), but is also an oasis of relaxation. On nice days, watch the colourful hustle and bustle, listen to music or watch games and sports being played.
Useful information about the 7-day cycling tour
Five stages with a length of 60 to 85 km have to be covered. You should therefore be in good physical condition, even though the route is relatively easy as there are only a few climbs to master.
Welcome briefing and bike fitting. The capital city of Bavaria is awaiting you and invites you to visit its many attractions (English Garden, Town Hall, Hofbräuhaus,…).
From Munich, the tour starts with a bike ride through Forstenrieder. The former hunting ground of the Wittelsbach dynasty is a real paradise for nature lovers. Via Gauting you will follow the slight hilly Royal Bavarian cycle path to Lake Ammersee. You will continue from Herrsching to Dießen along the lakeside and then along the river Ammer to Weilheim and Lake Starnberg.
Your day starts on a slight hilly way to Königsdorf. Continue to Bad Tölz and Bad Heilbrunn to Benediktbeuern. Here you shouldn’t miss to drink a cool beer in the shady beer garden of the monastery. Then continue to Lake Kochelsee and finally to Murnau on Lake Staffelsee.
First, you will cycle through the nature reserve called Murnauer Moos (largest swamp area of Central Europe). Later, you will continue your tour through unspoiled nature following the River Loisach to Garmisch Partenkirchen. From there, you will cycle uphill through wildly romantic gorges and lush meadows to the spring of the River Isar. Afterwards, you will cycle back through a sunny valley where you will have a marvellous panoramic view of the mountains of Karwendel and Wettersteingebirge, passing Mittenwald and finally arriving in Wallgau – a place where the Bavarian tradition is still a part of everyday life.
Passing the Isarwinkel, you will follow the crystal-clear, turquoise waters of the impressive Lake Sylvenstein to Bad Tölz. From there you can decide to do an extra tour through the atmospheric landscape around Lake Tegernsee. On the way back you will pass the wild-romantic valley Gaißbachtal.
The Isar bike path leads you from Bad Tölz over Geretsried and Wolfratshausen directly to Grünwald. After a few short climbs you will arrive back in Bavaria’s state capital Munich, where you can explore its countless sights and attractions.
Overall, this is a rather easy tour. A few short climbs can be conquered easily by pushing the bike. You will cycle on beautiful bike paths and minor roads. Main roads will only be used for short distances. The route is mostly paved; some longer passages are on forest tracks, which are in good condition.
