Itinerary

You should arrive early, because Metz is worth-seeing! The city offers buildings of Roman times until today and is well-known as bishop’s see, University City and centre of contemporary art. Besides numerous places of interest in the old city numerous parks are offering possibilities to relax. The old restored fortification is also a visit worth it.

Today you spend almost the whole day in France. Enjoy the famous French cuisine and a good „Cafe au lait“.After the boarder you reach Perl, here you can ferry across the river to Schengen (Luxembourg), well-known due to the European agreement which controls the visible trade and passenger traffic. Or you make an excursion to the roman Villa Borg (5 km eastern of Perl). Be astonished about the excavations, the reconstruction of the Herrenhaus and Villenbad, the old roman gardens and enjoy a drink in the roman tavern.

The extended vineyards to the left and right of the river are accompanying you today for the first time. Make a detour to Remich, and enjoy the Mediterranean flair in numerous cafes and bistros along the 3km long Moselle promenade. Spend some time there and visit the old alleyways and the church from 1817. Romans named the city in former times Remacum. You continue along the right side of the river to Konz. At the meeting of Moselle and Saar you cross the river. From here you reach Trier within a few kilometres, therefore you will have enough time for an extended stroll. Visit the Porta Nigra, the amphietheatre, the emperor hot springs or the beautiful dome.

A great day with roman past and today’s wine culture is awaiting you. Along Moselle bike path to Mehring where Villa Rustica is waiting for a visit. A Villa Rustica is a country house resp. manor in the Roman Empire. Today those reconstructed buildings and foundation walls can be visited again. You continue unhurried to Trittenheim, where a special path gives you lots of information about wine and winemaking. Just before you reach Piesport you come to Neumagen-Dhron which is the oldest wine village in Germany! You should taste a Schoppen here.

Bernkastel-Kues and Traben-Trarbach, the two famous cities at the river as well as the well-known vineyard “Kröver Nacktarsch” are the highlights of today. Be astonished about the colourful and diversified half-timbered houses on the market square of Bernkastel-Kues and enjoy a wonderful boat tour in Traben-Trarbach.

Today you explore Enkirch, a jewel of half-timber architecture and Zell, the wine village with the „Zeller Schwarzen Katz“. Plan a stop in Beilstein which is also named “Rothenburg at river Moselle” and look forward to Cochem with its picturesque centre and old fortress from 11th century.

Today we recommend making a detour to the medieval fortress Eltz, before the Moselle cycle path brings you to the worth-seeing wine villages of Koben Gondorf and Winningen and on to the German boarder. Enjoy the views over the beautiful Rhine valley and look forward to a beautiful evening in Coblenz.

Today your beautiful bike tour ends in the heart of Coblenz.

Fabulous experience - I was almost about to hop on a train back to Metz and ride it again!
All I can say is if you are contemplating this ride - just do it! Booking process was excellent (I used eurobike.at) prompt responses, informative, nothing was any trouble. Stefanie was a gem and very patient with some fussy questions. The ride itself - well what can you say? It is the Moselle! Beautiful, interesting, varied, just a pleasure to be in this amazing part of France/Germany. The accommodation - I chose the budget option and frankly there was nothing budget about it in my opinion. Hotels varied from good to outstanding. The equipment - I took an e-Bike as I was not able to complete a full preparation and I didn't want the ride spoilt by injury from lack of preparedness. The bike was fantastic, the equipment with it (panniers, repair kit, etc) were first class and the documentation perfect. All in all the trip exceeded my expectations and gave me the most extraordinary pleasure.

Amazing time!
My husband and I absolutely loved our bike tour along the Moselle! This was the most uncomplicated trip we've ever done. The hotels were great, the e-bikes were a great option and very easy to use. The travel package we received made understanding our route super easy. This was our first bike tour and we are hooked. We'll be looking to book another for next year!!

Great tour during fall-season!
I think it was perfect to have this bike-tour during the first half of October. We had quiet trails ( often alone on the trail until around noon), gorgious fall-colors, the joy of watching grape-harveesting and apple-harvesting - and not least: our own experience of picking walnuts from the ground! All this in addition to the beuatiful valley itself, the quiet Moselle, the pittoresque houses, the amicing castle, the lovely waterbirds, the possibility of using good trails on both sides of the river and the many ancient/historical cites!
