Around the Kaiserstuhl
Culinary delights and pure nature experiences.
Arrival in Freiburg
The tour starts in Freiburg, the warmest city in Germany. The ‚Bächle‘, the little gullies, that run through the old town give the city its very own flair.
Hop on your bike and start the first stage of your cycle holiday in the Kaiserstuhl. Get out of the hustle and bustle of the big city and into an idyllic landscape. You cycle along vineyards and through beautiful little villages. Discover the extremely attractive historic centres of Breisach and Burkheim. Try the sun-kissed wines of the region, plus a portion of ‚Leberle mit Brägele‘ (fried liver with fried potatoes) and you are energised for the onward journey.
Not far from the Rhine wetlands, your cycle path first leads you through the vineyards of the Kaiserstuhl. Expect some inclines for the first few kilometres. You are rewarded with a magnificent view over the wine region. Then you cycle on pleasantly flat paths through numerous small winegrowing communities. Today’s stage of the Kaisterstuhl-cycle tour takes you back to the starting point of the day.
You cross the river Rhine by bike and thus also the natural border to France. Neuf-Brisach is the city of the Sun King. A tour of the octagonal, architecturally unique town will also fascinate you. Then cycle to charming Colmar. Old, well-preserved half-timbered houses and bridges decorated with flowers contribute to the dreamy atmosphere of the Petite Venise district.
The river Rhine flows North. You follow the river – but in the opposite direction. You soon reach the first spa resorts. Here on the edge of the Black Forest, healing waters come out of the mountains and have encouraged the creation of thermal spas, some of them since Roman times. Visit a Roman bath ruin before you then enjoy the pleasant thermal water in the Cassiopeia thermal springs (not included).
You cycle through the wine villages of the Markgräflerland, on the right rises the Black Forest, on the left its reflection, the Vosges. Freiburg is the warmest and Southernmost city in Germany and has its own flair due to the gullies in the historic centre. From the castle hill you enjoy a fabulous view over the city and the surrounding area.
