Short-term travel insurance

What type of insurance is this?

This insurance ensures that you receive help in the event of illness, accident or death of you, your travel companions or family members who are at home. You can expand the travel insurance with different coverages that suit your travel behaviour. You take out this insurance for a specific period. This page only provides a summary of the insurance, the policy conditions state extensively what someone is and is not insured for.

What is insured?

SOS costs: You will always receive help from our Emergency Centre. In the event of an accident or illness, we arrange and reimburse transport home and assistance to your family. For example after an accident or death. In addition, you are insured for the extra cover that you have chosen.

Choice Medical: You are entitled to reimbursement of medical expenses abroad. We also reimburse the mandatory excess of your health insurance.

Luggage: You are insured for damage, loss or theft of your luggage. Maximum reimbursements apply. We use an amortization table for reimbursement. An overview can be found here.

Choice of special sports: Are you going on winter sports or do you practice a special sport? And have you co-insured medical costs and luggage? Then we reimburse medical costs in the event of an accident. Damage to your own or rented sports equipment is also insured. List of special (winter) sports: click here.

Choice of roadside breakdown: In the event of a breakdown or an accident involving your transport, you will receive assistance. If necessary, we will arrange and reimburse replacement transport. We also take care of transporting your defective vehicle home. Damage to or theft of your vehicle is not insured. This cover is valid in the countries on the international certificate of insurance (green card) of the vehicle.

Choice of accidents: If you have an accident during your trip that causes you to become permanently disabled or die, you are entitled to a one-off payment.

Choice of short-term cancellation insurance: We reimburse the costs that the travel organization charges you in the event of a cancellation. You will also receive compensation if you have to cut short a journey or if public transport is delayed by more than 8 hours on the outward journey. Insured events can be found in the conditions.

Travel advice from the government: Does your destination have negative travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (colour code red or orange)? Then the trip is insured.

Choice of the composite trip: In the case of a trip in which you have put together the various components yourself (for example flight, hotel and rental car), we reimburse the costs for cancellation or interruption. Does one of these components fail due to an event from the conditions? Then we reimburse the cancellation of the travel components that you cannot use.

What is not insured?

Below you will find the most important exclusions. There are more reasons why you are not entitled to cover, such as intent or use of narcotics. All exclusions can be found in the terms and conditions.

Fraud: We will not pay out if you deliberately try to mislead us. 

Are there any coverage restrictions?

When you travel, you handle your luggage with care. If it appears that you have not acted responsibly towards travel companions and other people and their property, you may not be reimbursed for all costs.

Excess: Depending on the cover taken out, Baggage is subject to an excess of €0, €50 or €75 per event. For Medical costs, an excess of €500 applies for package A.

Maximum reimbursements: Maximum reimbursements: apply to various insured components of travel and cancellation insurance. You can find this in the conditions.

Extra information: If you live in Belgium or Germany and you do not have Dutch basic insurance, we will reimburse a maximum of €30,000 in medical costs.

Sports: You are not insured when participating in competitions and practising some sports (such as combat sports).

Where am I covered?

You can choose from four insurance areas: 1. Europe, 2. World excluding US and Canada and 3. The world including US and Canada, 4. The Netherlands. We also include the Azores, the Canary Islands, Madeira and the non-European countries on the Mediterranean Sea as part of Europe.

What are my obligations?

If you apply for insurance, you must answer our questions honestly. You should do as much as possible to prevent and limit the damage. In case of an emergency, call the emergency centre as soon as possible. Report the loss, theft or misappropriation of luggage to the police. You must be able to prove the damage.

When does the cover start and end?

This starts on the commencement date of the trip and ends automatically on the end date of your trip as stated on the policy schedule. Are you delayed by public transport or do you end up in hospital during your trip and can't go back home? Then the insurance continues, even after the end date.

How do I cancel my contract?

You can only cancel the insurance within the cooling-off period of 14 days if the insurance lasts longer than one month. Please contact Allianz Global Assistance for this.

Short-term cancellation insurance

What type of insurance is this?

Have you booked a trip, but are you unexpectedly unable to go? Or do you have to interrupt the journey? Then the travel organization usually does not reimburse the entire travel sum. This insurance provides cover for the part that you do not get back, including any additional costs you must incur. the policy conditions state extensively what someone is and is not insured for.

What is insured?

We reimburse the costs of cancelling a trip or if you have to break off/interrupt the trip. If you choose to rebook your trip, we will also reimburse these costs. If the public transport with which you make the journey is delayed by more than 8 hours, you will also receive compensation.

Health: We reimburse the costs of cancelling or interrupting a trip due to the death, accident, serious illness or unexpected medical treatment of yourself, a family member or a travelling companion. If you are unable to travel due to complications during your pregnancy, you are also entitled to compensation.

Family: The insurance provides cover if a family member in the first, second or third degree dies or comes into a life-threatening situation.

Work: You are entitled to compensation if you cancel the trip because you have a new job after you have been unemployed. Or if you were fired through no fault of your own.

Home: If you cancel because you are unexpectedly assigned a home, we will reimburse the costs of cancellation. This also applies if your home is damaged before or during the trip.

Choice of self-compiled trips: In the case of a trip in which you have put together the various components yourself (e.g. flight, hotel and rental car), we reimburse the costs for cancellation or interruption. Does one of these components fail due to an event from the conditions? Then we reimburse the cancellation of the travel components that you cannot use.

Choice of Double Insurance, comprehensive cover in the event of a trip being cut short: With this option, you will also be reimbursed the full travel sum if the trip is cut short, up to a maximum of the amount on your policy schedule. In all cases, the reason must be stated in the conditions.

Cancellation travel companion: Does your travel companion cancel his trip and you no longer want to travel because of this? Then you are entitled to compensation if the reason for cancellation by your travel companion is stated in our terms and conditions. The departure and return dates must be the same.

What is not insured?

Below you will find the most important exclusions. There are more reasons why you are not entitled to cover, such as intent or use of narcotics. All exclusions can be found in the terms and conditions .

Are there any coverage restrictions?

Disaster abroad: Cancellation due to a natural disaster, epidemic or attack in the holiday country is not insured.

Fraud: We will not pay out if you deliberately try to mislead us.

No uncertain event: The insurance does not provide cover if you could already have expected that you would have to cancel, cut short or interrupt the trip when you booked.

Maximum reimbursement: We reimburse a maximum of the amount stated on the policy schedule.

Where am I covered?

You are insured for the trip you have booked. It doesn't matter where you go.

What are my obligations?

If you apply for insurance, you answer our questions honestly. Report the (possible) cancellation to the travel provider within 3 days. You should do as much as possible to prevent and limit the damage. You must be able to demonstrate the reason for cancellation.

When does the cover start and end?

Take out the insurance within 7 days after booking the trip. The insurance starts on the date that you take out the insurance. The insurance ends on the date stated on the policy schedule.

How do I cancel my contract?
