Discover the path that surrounds the wonderful Mediterranean island of Menorca. The “Camí de Cavalls” is a famous route, suitable for beginners and experienced hikers. The hiking route has a great geological and scenic variety, passing by beautiful beaches, forests, inland pastures and cultivation, as well as urban areas in Maó-Mahón, Minorcan capital in the East and Ciutadella de Menorca in the West. During your week in Menorca you will discover the most beautiful stages of this unique route as well as the culture and traditions of the friendly inhabitants living on this colorful Balearic Island.
You start with the nature reserve of S’Albufera des Grau, which is located in the heart of the biosphere reserve. Wetlands, pastures and cultivated areas as well as stunning dunes and white sandy beaches complete the scenery segment.
By the way: Bird lovers are in particularly good hands on the island. On the third day of your walking holiday you will hike to the Ciutadella in the North of Menorca. Here the biological diversity is the greatest and so are the bird species. Marvel at the diversity of Menorca.
On the sixth day of your walking tour it gets truly spectacular. On the “path of the Gorges” you get to discover three well-known gorges: Algendar, Trebaluger and Albranca. You continue inland through green forest areas. The final day starts again with a circular hike from Son Bou to Es Canutells. In addition to the basilica, you visit the 100 prehistoric caves of Calescoves.

Spectacular cliffs: Menorca offers numerous cliffs and breathtaking beaches. The cliffs are particularly impressive at Cap de Cavalleria.
Pardal’s Cave: This cave contains an antique scoop wheel as well as hidden bunkers from World War II.
Worth knowing about hiking on Menorca
On Menorca you hike inland or along the coast on coastal paths, dirt roads and paved routes. Due to the prominence and popularity of the long-distance hiking path, you find wooden signs with markings on the ground along the entire route. In case your energy levels let you down on one of the days, there is always the option to shorten the stage.

Mahon is the starting point for the exploration of this beautiful island. Shaped by the British reign in the 17th century and the large natural harbour this town offers a very unique flair, which you get to discover whilst on a stroll through the colourful alleyways.
Today you discover the S’Albufera des Grau nature reserve, located in the heart of the biosphere reserve. During this hiking tour you cross wetlands, pasturages and cultivated areas, dunes and wonderful beaches, such as Tortuga- or Presili beach. After a while you reach Cape Favàritx with its imposing lighthouse built on black slate rocks. If you like you can continue to the harbour of Addaia via the saline de Mongofre. Transfer back to Mahon.
You hike across one of the best preserved coastal areas in the North of Menorca, unique with its ample biological diversity as well as numerous bird species. Onwards you proceed to the beaches of Cavalleria and Binimel-lá. Just a short distance from the Camí de Cavalls you can visit the antique harbour of Sanitja. End today’s hiking tour with a visit to the lighthouse located on top of spectacular cliffs at the Cape de Cavalleria and enjoy a swim in the sea at Pregonda beach, one of the most stunning beach in the North of the island.
From Cala Pilar you continue through varied surroundings featuring dense forests and scrubland. The highlights are the ‚Macar d’Alfurì‘ with its rounded off rocks, the beaches of La Vall and Algaiarens, as well as the ‚talayotic‘ necropolis and the Cala Morell caves. It is optional for you to walk all the way to the lighthouse of Punta Nati.
Crossing of the spectacualr section of the Camí de Cavalls in the South of the island. You pass the beaches of Son Saura, Cala Turqueta and Macarella with its crystal clear turquoise water. A little bit further we recommend you visit the cave of Pardal, an antique scoop wheel and a hidden bunker from the Second World War.
Discover the renowned gorges of the island (Algendar, Trebaluger and Albranca), known as the ‚Path of the Gorges‘. From the Cala Galdana you walk to Cala Mitjana beach and then head inland across green wooded areas. Following the Camí de Cavalls you reach the fabulous beach of Binigaus, right at the spot where the rocks reveal the coastal path. Following the coast you reach the village of Santo Tomás. Transfer from Santo Tomás back to Mahón.
You start your hiking tour from the picturesque Son Bou beach. Begin with a visit to the paleo-Christian basilica. You then proceed through the gorge and bay of Llucalari inland, whilst crossing the gorge of Cala en Porter. At the necropolis of Calescoves you will see more than 100 protohistoric caves of Calescoves, a region with huge archaeological value.

You walk along well-maintained hiking paths as well as along paths on the coast and across meadows, mostly along the coast and partly upcountry. The long-distance hiking trail GR-223 alias Camí de Cavalls is well-marked with wooden signposts along the entire route. For the daily tours a good basic fitness level and surefootedness is required. Nearly every day there is the option of a shorter or a longer hike.

Alles bestens!
Tolle Strände, gute Beschilderung, perfekter Service vor Ort! Die Strecken waren alle länger als angegeben, das sollte evtl. korrigiert werden. Am Cala Maracella sind wir Klippen aufgestiegen, das hätten wir umgehen können. Da wäre ein Hinweis in den Reiseunterlagen gut gewesen.
