Details about the hiking holiday in the Alpe-Adria region

The Slovenian part of the Alpe Adria Trail in Soĉa Valley is hiked in five sections. Already at the start you meet Slovenia’s National Park, the Triglav National Park and cross the Vrŝiĉ Pass. On day three you find yourself in the middle of the spring of the turquoise blue, crystal clear Soĉa. From there you follow one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe on historic paths through impressive landscapes and quaint villages. Admire the emerald-green river make its way through the rocky slopes and gorges until it plunges into a breathtaking waterfall. On the last stage of your hiking tour, you will head to the border area with Italy, where a shuttle bus will be waiting for you.

The highlights of the Slovenian Alpe Adria Trail at a glance:

  • Small pretty villages: The village of Bovec in northwestern Slovenia entices hikers with traditional cuisine and countless bars. Let the hiking day come to a relaxing end with a refreshingly cold beer.
  • Soĉa Valley: A breathtaking landscape that offers adventurers plenty of action. Whether canyoning, rafting or ziplining: Experience the adrenaline rush up close in the Julian Alps.

Useful information about hiking along the Alpe Adria in Slovenia

Itinerary

The starting point of the first tour is the mountain pass Vrisic located on an altitude of 1618 metres and boasting amazing views. After a short transfer you start your tour, always slightly ascending all the way to the source of the river Soča. The river Soča, ‚Isonzo’ in Italian, is the ‚soul’ of the Julian Alps with its crystal-clear waters. The route leads you along soft, idyllic sections along the river followed by areas with wild roaring waters carving its way through deep gorges. You follow the Soča-Trail and reach your Day Finish Trenta.

approx. 5 to 6 hours
14 km
150 m
800 m

Today one of the most spectacular sections awaits. From Trenta you walk accompanied by the river Soča either level along the river or high up above the glistening waters. You switch over to the other side of the river via several sturdy hanging bridges with marvellous views down into the valley. The hike through the Soča gorge is a very special experience on this tour. At the end of the gorge the route leads you comfortably to Bovec.

approx. 6 to 7 hours

650 m

This stage again is characterised by water. Shortly after Bovec you reach the roaring waterfall Virje. The next highlight is the impressive Boka waterfall, the biggest waterfall in Slovenia - a very special and unique natural spectacle. Then onwards through pastureland via Kamp Trnovo into the mountain village of Magozd, from where you can already spot Dreznica and its pilgrimage church.

approx. 6 to 7 hours
23 km
700 m
600 m

You walk along ‚the peace path’ to the Italian chapel Bes na Planici, located at the entrance to the Triglav National park. Again and again you can marvel at the fabulous views into the valley and to the river Soča, and the Kolovrat mountain ridges situated opposite. Soon you reach the high-altitude pastures of the Kuhinja, where we recommend you sample the regional cheese specialities, before you descend to Tolmin.

approx. 6 to 7 hours

1.200 m

The route leads you uphill through the Kamnica rift high up to the Hlevnik with fantastic long-distance views into the valley. After a short ascent you reach the Kolovrat mountain ridge. The route now takes you through former defence works over to the Klabuk, where you can marvel at the amazing panoramic views onto the surrounding peaks. The descent is sheer bliss and ends at the Refugio Solarie, the former border checkpoint into Italy. Return transfer to the starting point Kranjska Gora.

Beautiful introduction to Slovenia
The route was beautiful and varied, from steep, forested, climbs to the more leisurely walk by the Soca river which was an incredible emerald green colour. The open air museum of world war trenches at the border with Italy is worth spending time at, if the weather is kind to you. All the accommodation was very good, with comfortable beds and a great choice at breakfast. The local guide that met us on our first night was excellent. He gave us lots of useful advice about the trail and a really interesting insight into the history of Slovenia during the drive back to Kranjska Gora at the end of the holiday.

Adria Alpe Trail "Isonzo"

First time with Eurohike, and I as an American I will be back for the the superior support and services provided.
My two local contacts provided top-notch service, they were very thorough, providing all the details at our initial meeting. All of the accommodations were great. The trail is a good hike with a mix of ups, downs, and valley walking, beautiful. The locals were always friendly. And a plus, there is an excellent brewery in Bovec, one of the towns where we stay overnight. As an American, I found Eurohike entirely satisfactory and look forward to another trip soon with them.

Traumhaftes Wandern an türkisblauem Wasser
